“Alice” is going to
disappear

Last November, the Hamburg company “HanseNet”
was bought by its rival O2, which belongs to the Spanish company Telefonica. HanseNet offered broadband connections
and mobile phone contracts and has been known to Hamburgers and the rest of
Germany alike only as “Alice”, since this was the name of the branch that was
responsible for private consumers.
Now, the CEO of O2 Germany, René Schuster,
has announced that this name will disappear and all new and existing contracts
will refer to the name 'O2' within two years. HanseNet used to advertise its product with a model and only
recently had giant posters all over the Jungfernstieg station – much to the
dismay of commuters.
Telefonica hopes that
existing broadband customers will choose O2 products as well– the company is
betting on the cross-selling of products.
