On
October 23, at Consortium in Harburg, American blues/soul/R&B veteran Billy
“Harp” Hamilton, with the newly re-formed Lowriders band, played his first show
in the Hamburg area. It took him only about four decades to get here.“I’ve wanted to play in Hamburg since the
mid-60s,” Hamilton said. “That’s when the Beatles, the Stones, and other ‘British
Invasion’ groups hit the radio airwaves in the U.S. and inspired me to play—or
try to. I used to read about their early days at the clubs in Hamburg and
wanted to be here so badly I could taste it.”
When you think of Ireland, two
thoughts might strike you - music and weather or the other way around.
Both have a lot in common. As weather is in constant flux so too is
music. Sometimes music is facing a stiff cool breeze and sometimes it
finds itself on the sunny side of life. As clouds pop up in the skies
and sort themselves to bizarre constellations, so too do artists by
starting new bands. New sounds come and go. Rarely do you have at the
same time even sunshine and rain. For a split second there is this
magic moment which casts a unique light on the landscape. The Irish
Folk Festival has the experience to know where in the land of rainbows,
the best opportunity is to witness such magic moments - at least in
their musical dimension. So join us for the "rainbow expedition"! You
will enjoy the best of Irish traditional music and folk!
