The film Death Race is a polemic
against privatized prisons set in an impoverished, de-industria-
lized United States of America that has become a police state: the
year is 2012. The film is produced by Roger Corman. The inmates of
Terminal Island are held in an artificial island prison connected by
a long narrow bridge to land.. To make a profit the warden, a woman
always referred to as „M'am“ by the terrorized inmates, contracts
them out to participate in televised anything goes races with armor
plated vehicles that can withstand heavy machinegun fire. The winner
in these ratings driven races is promised his freedom and the losers
die in horrible ways.
