The film Death Race is a polemic against privatized prisons set in an impoverished, de-industria- lized United States of America that has become a police state: the year is 2012. The film is produced by Roger Corman. The inmates of Terminal Island are held in an artificial island prison connected by a long narrow bridge to land.. To make a profit the warden, a woman always referred to as „M'am“ by the terrorized inmates, contracts them out to participate in televised anything goes races with armor plated vehicles that can withstand heavy machinegun fire.
