In last week's review I complained that American movies always have happy endings. REC, a horror flick, is an exception, maybe because it was directed by two Spaniards. The title comes from the blinking text showing that a camera is recording. The plot involves a local news station camera crew as they follow the adventures of a firehouse full of rowdy Los Angeles firefighters as they respond to an emergency call at 1.47 A.M. This fright flick starts without credits and mood music. The only foreshadowing of the horrors to come is that one of the firefighters explains to the anchor woman that 85% of the calls are not about fires but health emergencies. Register to read more...
