Hotel Atlantic celebrates 100th anniversary
Hotel-Director Sebastian Heinemann welcomed seven 100-year-old Hamburgers to the Hotel Atlantic's 100th anniversary celebration. (Photo: Jutta Höflich) When a lady celebrates her 100th birthday, there is no glamorous ball; she simply enjoys her five-o'clock tea in the bosom of her family and close friends. So that's the kind of celebration the Kempinski Hotel Atlantic had yesterday: a stylish tea dance. Hamburg's Vice Mayor, Christa Goetsch (GAL), congratulated the Hotel Atlantic on behalf of the Hamburg Senate. Hotel director Sebastian Heinemann confessed that he was proud to be with the "old lady" on her great day. Among the guests who enjoyed delicacies and dancing were Javier F. Collar Zabaleta, consul-general of Spain, and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Osniak, as well as Howard Kroch, honorary consul of Trinidad & Tobago, Eckart Kroll (Madagascar) and Friedrich Saure (Latvia). Also present were Rolf Salo, member of the State Executive of FDP Hamburg; publisher Klaus Schümann; Uwe Frommhold, director of the Color Line Arena; and Marie Christine Kließ. Every year at the Hotel Atlantic, the president of the French Welcome Club Hambourg Accueil hosts a charity ball to benefit the Children's Hospital of Altona--not to mention Udo Lindenberg. The rock star has been living in the hotel for fifteen years now and surprised yesterday's guests with some of his hits.
