Kefalonia
Overview
From sunbathing
at Myrtos beach (one of the top ten photographed beaches in the world) and
examining the stalactites and stalagmites at the emerald underground Lake
Melissani (the Odyssean ‘Cave of the Nymphs’), there is plenty to satisfy a
day’s outing from Fiscardo. There are further quaint villages, churches,
monasteries, and historic cemeteries to discover, as well as the capitol of
Argostoli. One may also conquer the Venetian fortress ruins at Assos, and
traverse the remains of the village that inspired Louis de Berniéres to write
‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. For those seeking oceanic thrill, diving courses
and snorkelling tours hosted by an experienced marine biologist are available.
Hiring a speedboat for a day to claim your own bay, sunbathe at sea or head to
Ithaca also provides simple pleasure. (No license is required up to 35hp).
